Homemade Refried Beans- SO Good and Good for you too!!

I found this recipe at allrecipes.com (my all time favorite recipe website!) and it is really really good!!

Unfortunately it doesn't make for great pictures but I tried anyway. LOL!!!

It only has
139 Cals
0.5 fat and
0 cholesterol
Sodium 785g (need to work on that one)
and should probably leave the salt it calls for out
25.4g carbs
6.2g fiber and
8.5g of protein.

Not bad!! And it tastes wonderful!

Refried Beans with out the refry (15 servings)

1 Onion Peeled and halved

3 C dried pinto beans rinsed

1/2 a fresh jalapeno seeded and chopped
(we left this out. Poor Hubby who loves them has a stomach that says no more for awhile)

2 TBSP minced garlic

5 tsp salt

1 3/4 tsp ground pepper

1/8 of a tsp ground cumin

(optional but we love cumin at our house so not so optional here)

9 C of water

Place onion, pinto beans, jalapeno, garlic, salt, pepper and cumin in a slow cooker. Pour water over and stir to combine. Cook on high for 8 hours adding water as needed. NOTE: if you have needed to add more that 1 C of water the heat is too high. Once beans have been cooked strain them (reserve some liquid) and mash with a potato masher(we used a hand mixer right in the crock) adding reserved liquid as needed to attain desired consistency. Enjoy! What do you think?

  1. Do you think black beans would turn out okay? I prefer them to pinto
