Egg Gravy or Eggs Goldenrod-A Family Easter Tradition

Hey friends! This is a real photo of our real Easter morning breakfast last year. Hence the paper plate. At some point it is mom and dads holiday too and we should get to relax some also.  Am I right? It isn't always going to be fine china and centerpieces at my house. HAHA! We lovingly call this dish egg gravy. I do believe the actual name is Eggs golden rod. We eat this delicious dish every Easter morning, and literally only Easter morning, with our newly boiled and dyed Easter eggs. This tradition comes from my cute husbands family and we recently discovered it has been eaten for potentially 7 generations back. This makes it all the more special for us! They add lots of spices beyond the salt and pepper we use, so feel free to make it your own and spice it up!

Our Daily Christmas Advent Activities

While my husband and I were discussing with our kids their Christmas memories it became painfully aware to us that, aside from a few very special gifts, our children don't remember much about what the presents have been under the tree from years past.  On the flip side of that they did remember the fun things we have done as a family.  Our traditions meant a lot to them.  It was at this point that we wanted to make an effort to make our time together a priority.  Welcome to the birth of our daily advents....I have had a few requests to see these so here they are. (every year is unique but this is this years)  Nov 25- decorating day Nov 26-Grandma's Birthday Nov 27-Sign and Stuff Christmas Cards (yes everyone signs these) Nov 28-The Candy Bar Game Nov 29-Egg Nog Night Nov 30-Make Advent calendars Dec 1-Our Disney Christmas Sing Along Dec 2-Festival of The Trees (going to see darling daughters Miss Kearns tree) Dec 3-Miss Kearns Holiday Festival (having a child in high

May's Most Popular Post.....Last Day of School Fun!

It is tradition (don't you know if you do something twice it suddenly becomes tradition LOL) to have a shaving cream fight after school on the last day of school to ring in the summer. Let me just say there is never more fun than can come from 5, buck a piece, shaving cream cans can buy!! I will only allow it that one weekend because it is a big mess to clean up and it does something very odd the the hair. The kids know to get as much out of it as they can, while they can, so needless to say they do. PS we learned that the aloe kind burn a little and will be avoided next year. Why does this friendly gesture look very suspicious? HO HO HO!!

Magic Grinch Dust

I include a little bag with some green buffalo glitter in the Santa Sack containing all the PJ's with this poem attached for the kids to sprinkle around outside on Christmas Eve. (you could also use green colored sugar if you are concerned about the glitter outside) MAGIC GRINCH DUST!! Don't let the Grinch steal your Christmas. You must be on your guard. Before retiring on Christmas Eve, Sprinkle this dust out on your yard. The Grinch will see your magic dust, And know you've taken great care, To protect your home and family, And keep Christmas joy in the air. Loves to all! Emily

A Christmas Story Advent-One of my favorite things!!

One of my favorite things to do is read with my kids! SO.... Starting Dec 1st we have a story a night until Christmas Eve when we read the first Christmas from the scriptures.  I found an awesome site that has the stories ready to print! You must go check out The Idea Door HERE!   This would also make a great gift to give families too!!   Another way I have used this tradition is I have gathered 24 Christmas story books and wrapped them and put them in a basket under the tree.  The kids love unwrapping one every night. It almost seems to calm them to get to unwrap something. What do you think?  loves to all!! Emily

Lost the PJ's under the tree? NEVER AGAIN!! Come and see!

So, I know that a lot of us have the tradition of new PJ's opened on Christmas Eve.  I so love this tradition and do it every year but I always had one problem...which ones are the PJs? I'd try marking them but they would still get mixed in and I would spend a good amount of time under the tree (with antsy kids I might add) searching and sorting trying to find my marked presents until I had this idea! I made up a "Santa Sack" that I put all the PJ's in. Its looks darn cute under the tree too!  Then Christmas Eve I just grab the sack and let the kids get their packages from it.  Simple, easy fix!! What do you do to keep the PJ's separate and easy to find?? Comment! I'd love to hear!!

A fun tradition with Wrapping Paper!!!

A few years ago when my children were smaller we ran into a little trouble with our Christmas presents.  As I would wrap my presents a few at a time, I would simply put them under the tree. No big deal right? (Marathon wrapping sessions are not for me. Ive done it a few times and it wasn't fun. I do what I can to avoid it!)  Mind you, I knew that there were many more still waiting to be wrapped and that everything would be equal when it was all said and done, but my kids obviously did not know that. (why they didn't trust that their father and I would do right by them I am still not quite sure) I came into our living room one evening to see all of the presents stacked and sorted in individual piles for each child and some with big grins on their faces and some with tears. I vowed this would not happen again!!! The solution? I buy 6 different coordinating papers. 1 different paper for each child and one for all the others outside our home and for myself and my husband to share.

A Christmas Elf Comes to Visit and IS a Bad Naughty Baby!! LOL!

Every year the day after Thanksgiving or Black Friday (I LOVE Black Friday but that's a different post) we have an elf arrive direct from the north pole (for elf passports letters and report forms etc go HERE!)  to keep an eye on our children and report to Santa how they are doing.  The picture above is this years new elf because my Grandma had the very same elf and after much searching he will finally be coming to my house (Santa likes to keep them in the family if he can) but we have used many other "elves" in the past.  Even a stuffed bear wearing elf clothes.  The little elf is only able to move and do things when no one is looking and for whatever reason Santa always sends us a fair to partly naughty elf. Here is a list of some of the shenanigans the little bounder has gotten into for us to discover the next morning!! PS I have recruited the older non believers to help take this task on and they love love love it! Win Win I say!! Interested in Elf On A Shelf? go HERE
